Welcome! We here are traditional Catholics willing to discuss frankly but civilly. We're kind of bored by the incivility and groupthink that often takes over Catholic forums. But we are eager for friendship combined with lively discussion. It is one of a kind. We here at the OkieTradCats Forum are devoted to the Catholic Faith and Catholic tradition, especially the Traditional Liturgy of the Church.
At the same time, this is a hub for Okies, for Catholics, and especially for Catholics devoted to our Catholic tradition. Its focus is our Local Church in Oklahoma as a Microcosm of what's going on in the Universal Church, and world.
Think of this place being like sitting in a pub with a good drink, while hashing out topics in friendship.
Mission Statement:
To unite Catholics through unity in the Faith and unity under the same hierarchical Church as founded by Our Lord Jesus Christ. Part of that unity, according to the Church, is to be faithful to Sacred Tradition.
Rules of the Forum
1. Be charitable and civil. Breaking this rule may result in a ban, at the discretion of the moderators. Use common sense.
Bans are not open to discussion.
2. No Groupthink. That is, there is no party-line or ideology enforced here. About different trad views. People can certainly form cliques which is natural to do, but they cannot start trying to force their particular views outside (or inside) of that clique as if it is the "correct doctrine." All views will be tolerated here as long as they don't directly or overtly contradict Rule #3. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groupthink
3. Posts against the Faith or Church may result in a ban.
4. Lets emphasize unity in the Catholic Faith/Tradition. If you cannot more less get along with people because they dont fit exactly your views, this is not the place for you. Openly and frankly argue, but keep it above the belt. Not observing this may result in a ban.
5. No Fight Clubs, or Mother Hen Clubs. Instead, Cigar Clubs and Sewing Circles are welcome! Arguing here is very welcome and I want to see people argue and discuss even when people strongly disagree. But the rules must be followed, and will be strictly enforced. Being hostile, belligerent, troll-like, antagonistic just for the sake of it, will result in a ban. But Cigar Clubs are encouraged, for the men! Sewing Clubs for the ladies are very welcome, to talk about subjects women like to talk about. But no Mother Hen Clubs--cattiness, moderating others, subtly trying to mother others, will result in a ban. For example, think chess or boxing for the men; and a vestment sewing group for the women.
6. In a thread, do not derail the thread. Dont like the subject, don't post like you are objecting in some way to it. Do not go off on endless tangents. Don't read minds nor intentions. First ask for clarity if thrown by something someone says. Do not just contradict the other person with your opinion--if you join a debate, listen, understand, fairly represent what the other person says. You can cuss, be sarcastic, snarky, egotistical, angry, and verbally fight. But folks, keep it over the belt. Think boxing, not the fight club. Be respectful always. Otherwise you may be banned, at the sole discretion of the moderators.
7. Try to post new topics inside stickied threads if the topic relates to the thread. Later we may pay to upgrade to a paying forum that has subforums.
That's it. Have fun!
